In their mask performance a*part Pipe Dream’s Inc. explore the secret longings of being human – the lust for a sandwich, the hope for a bit of tenderness, the wish for doing things differently or just being someone else. The performers Signe Holtsmark and Sabine Zahn, the video artist Judit Kurtág and composer and sound designer Jan Mech focus in their play on the every day snatches of life that shape our existence – particles in which we ceaselessly try to create a contained reality that provide us with coherence and logic.
The source of inspiration for a*part were the works of surrealist painters Marcel Duchamp and René Magritte, motion pictures of Georges Méliès and David Lynch. These “Masters” don’t get copied in this play, but some of the structural principles they worked with are brought forward on stage and simultaneously into a contemporary world.
